Does anybody have any experience of playing a Finch Cusack clarinet mouthpiece? I have stumbled across one on offer on an auction website and it looks radically different from most mouthpieces - I'd recommend searching for it (easy to find), the pictures are very interesting.
Apparently it was produced in the 1980s and it comes with a titanium reed. In fact, I get the impression that it is intended to work only with such a reed, but I'm not sure of that. Another interesting feature is that it uses O-rings instead of cork, so overall it seems a design ahead of its time. Since I've never heard of it before, I assume that it didn't meet with much success.

Can you expand on that, johnwesley? Weird it certainly appears, but in what sense exactly did you find it "not practical"? Are you mainly referring to the requirement of a titanium reed? Did you use only the titanium reed when you tried it or did you try a cane reed as well? What sort of tone did the mouthpiece produce? I'd love to hear some more details from you.

Never played one and don't want to get into pissing match due to opinion. My thoughts are it was made explicitly for use with a titanium reed. Where do you get them? Rubber O rings have a tendency wear out, lose their elasticity and stretch with age. In my opinion the contraption is a gimmick. Consequently they aren't made anymore.
