Cheap contrabass clarinet

It's called "Concerto" and - I assume - from China.

I think this may be identical to the Jinbao contrabass clarinet (search youtube for reviews)

Yeah most likely a JinBao. You can get them for about $2500 on AliExpress. Despite the fact that they need adjustments from the factory, from what I have heard they are decent instruments. I wouldn’t buy one unless you have a good relationship with the local repair tech or are a repair tech yourself though.

If they can be found for around the £2000 mark, that would definitely make them far more accessible for clarinet choirs and the like and a full service and other remedial work can be factored into that price. Although an EEb contra-alto would be a very useful instrument as that can read straight off bass clef parts.

It has to be said that if they are on sale at €5500-6000, then I expect them to have been completely dismantled and refinished for that price rather than being factory fresh, complete with all the typical problems that has with it.

I have a JinBao bass sax which for the price is a decent workable instrument based on the Selmer SA80II bass - I paid around £2400 for mine from Gear4music.

It was only when I took it apart to replace all the dodgy key corks I realised the point screws had the threads nipped with wire cutters to lock them into the pillar threads during final assembly, but that only destroys the much softer brass internal threads when it comes to undoing and refitting them.
