I just bought a Vito plastic bass clarinet 2 years old new pads and corks new case and 2 boxes of vandoren reeds and a bunch of accessories I only payed $450 plus $25 shipping and was wondering if I got a good deal or not. Also this is the first BC that i have purchased and I have played BC before I've played clarinet for 4 years now and want to know if this instrument is ok for me or not and why.

Thanx
Kim

I purchased a one year old Vito BC for my 17 year old son recently for $510, so it sounds like you got a good deal. New, they cost at least $899 plus shipping. My son is happy with it and says it's the best bass clarinet that he has ever played. I've tried it also, and it is an easy instrument to play. I did have to adjust the register key mechanism to get the B-flat near open G to play properly without being horribly flat, but the instrument has held the adjustment OK.

In my opinion, the Vito bass clarinets are much better than the Vito altos, which have a very poor register key design.

Kimbo,
You got a good deal on a good instrument. I play a Vito bass clarinet I bought new a year ago for $900, and I'm a semi-pro player who's been specializing in bass clarinet for 20 years, and I picked the Vito because it plays nearly as well as the expensive wooden instruments for 1/4 the price (or less!). Enjoy your Vito, and take good care of it!

Kim,

Vito's da bomb!! Girl, I give you props for making the right choice. V-I-T-O. Doesn't that name sound so sweet? Yeah, I've been playing on a Vito for 8 years now and so far, I've made principal for all my state auditions in Arkansas. Where I come from, Vito is only sold to the finest of all clarinet players. Maybe someday I'll put Vito on the tops where it should be.... Love ya Bundy Boy

I don't like the Vito sopranos, but my friend in wind symphony plays a Vito bass clarinet. Makes you wonder if it's even the same brand! And even if the instrument isn't all that great (even though yours is) $450 is a really good deal for a bass clarinet.
