So I have a D Noblet Oval-emblemed ND (or DN) clarinet still in playable working condition. It has all new pads, new mouthpiece, and new cork. But I have a few questions!
1. I can't seem to find the age of my clarinet anywhere on the internet! I've looked, but can't seem to find it.
2. Would it be a good idea to get it professionally clean at the age that it is? From what I COULD find on the internet, it said it was from 1940-1962... which is really old. Is it okay to clean one of these professionally?
3. WHY won't ANY OTHER BARREL fit on the upper joint?! I've tried a multitude of them, but none of them seem to fit!

Provided whoever is doing the work has plenty of experience and knows exactly what they're doing, then it can be cleaned which would normally be included during a general service to get it into playing condition, or a full overhaul if you're planning on having it completely rebuilt from the ground up.

Is the top tenon too wide or too narrow for a replacement barrel?
If it's too wide and no barrel will fit, then the tenon can be reduced in diameter by machining the tenon rings down so it will fit most barrels available on the market. If it's too narrow, the tenon can be sleeved or the tenon rings rebuilt for a better, wobble-free fit.

Thanks Chris, The upper joint is too wide to fit any other barrel, and I will see about the services you suggested. Thanks!

Forgive a naive question: is this a D clarinet or a Bb? Is the D ("a D Noblet...") a pitch designation or a model?

Thanks. I wasn't having a problem with "DN" or "ND" - it was the D at the beginning of the OP's descriptor ("D Noblet Oval-emblemed ND (or DN)" that made me wonder.
