Has anyone here tried the Uebel Plateau Clarinet and if so, what are your thoughts good or bad. I'm interested in trying one due to arthritis is both hands which makes it difficult to always completely cover tone holes.

Is this a new clarinet from the current Uebel company, or an older one from before the 1990s? (the original Mr Uebel was a student/apprentice of Oskar Oehler).

I switched to a plateau clari after developing carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis in both hands and wrists. The carpal tunnel robbed me of sensation in my fingertips, and I was unable to judge finger placement with accuracy. I've had the carpal tunnel fixed but the arthritis remains a problem. I've reverted to using a standard Boehm clari for the present, but I'm hanging on to the plateau because sometime up the track I'm going to need it again. The plateau instrument will make a huge difference to your ability to deal with the mechanics of playing. There are some differences, but mostly thay can be worked round. I wondered how long it would take me to become acustomed to the plateau fingering, but in fact it took about 30 seconds.

Uebel Superior plateaux clarinets are the recent ones:

Richard Keilwerth some years ago made plateau clarinets. On the German ... auction site one of them, silver plated, is offered since May 25: " Klarinette B - Richard Keilwerth - aus Nachlass ", for the moment at 22,50 €.
