I always thought metal clarinets were only made in one-piece body, until I saw this one.

I also know little about metal clarinets, but this one is interesting. It has the g# (articulated?) through the tennon. Has the forked g#.... can't see much more except interesting barrel. The owner knows he has an unusual item there, but he seems to think the metal is gold!

Conn, Selmer, and Haynes all made double wall metal clarinets that were configured in the "normal" multipiece configuration.

This Selmer was probably intended for the professional player but that price is a bit too high IMHO.

This is a very interesting instrument. If it wasn't so expensive I would consider bidding on it.

(I have decided to start adding my last name onto posts considering the other two or three Davids use theirs also.)

I find the pic hard to see if there is a "7th" ring for the fork Eb/Bb and the alt. Ab/Eb lever to make it a 3/4ths Full Boehm [like others and my Prueffer. same vintage!], otherwise a high quality metal clar, IMHO. Bid it up with care! Don

In regards to this silver Selmer, my Grandfather played a full Boehm version of the same in the US Army band and a symphony in Arizona around the 1940's. That same instrument sold on E-bay about 6 months ago for around $1,700.00. You can find the basic, junky student model metal clarinets a dime a dozen. If you find one of the truly pro-level silver horns, like this one, they are rare, and actually have some collectible value as well as the basic value of a decent clarinet. I'd think about this one if I wasn't saving for a vintage 1960's R-13 with gold plated keys, tenon rings and bell ring.

Best of luck!

Kevin

recently, say the last 6 - 8 months, there have been more than a few Selmer Silverplated @X Wall Clarinets on eBay. They have all sold, amid a flurry of bidding. This particular one is priced @ the top (as Dee opined); $850 is the going price for a nice 17/6 with exc. pads & corks. As I stated some time back, Charlie Fail had a 17/6 Selmer in MINT silverplate for $700 or $750, it's too painful to remember. IMMSMR, it had new pads & corks, too.

we have had some other conversations on point.

best,
mw

PS there was a pitted out Selmer 2X silverplate on eBay not too long ago. Went w/an old chipped Crystal mouthpiece, too. Went for like $150. Needed to be totally replated, as best i could tell. Had what appeared to be a missing key or 2 & had some dents in the bell & other places, too. FWIW, this puppy at $850 would be a far better bet --- if you had to have one.
