Question/ Selmer clarinet parts mixed up
Author: Pocahontas

Hi everyone! It’s me again on my search for getting a newer clarinet.

Picture this: Vandoren B45 Mouthpiece + Barrel and Bell Selmer A Series 10 G + Upper and lower Joint Selmer Series 9 = ?

What would be the ? result expected to this Clarinets parts union? Would it end up fine or not? Haha
Hope you guys give me your best and honest answers as I am thinking about to make this clarinet mine.

Ps: I’m a church orchestra player/ jazz blues lover.

If it plays in tune, then run with it.

Call it a dual bore model.

A series 9 is a large bore instrument, while the 10G is a narrower bored instrument discussed elsewhere on this bboard (I play one btw and love it).

I would expect the barrel from the 10G to cause some intonation problems on the large bore middle sections, and also issues with uneven resistance between different notes.

There might be similar issues with the bell, but less extreme.

That said, if the price is good, go for it, the Series 9 is a highly regarded Jazz and Blues instrument and you could probably source a custom or vintage S9 barrel (there's one on that auction site now) with a larger bore that fixes the above issues.

Good luck!
