 Older 'Windsor' Clarinet info?
Author: zeeborg

Hello;

I have an older friend who is not 'internet savvy' and asked me about a clarinet in his possession. It appears to be a silver over brass clarinet with 'Windsor' Elkhart, Indiana etched on the bell.
It seems like a 'nicer' student or midgrade clarinet, but I can find no info on it.
Any idea as to it's value and history? Everything seems to work, other than needs a good cleaning and a new reed.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Zee

My lists of clarinet "stencils" is at work. I'll have to scan them in and share them. My guess is that it was made by Conn.

Your Windsor clarinet is pretty well identical to my Selmer "Manhattan" right down to the fine detail. I'm certain that your clari was made by Selmer. The pad cup shape would support this.

That thick thumbrest casting and the keywork look very much like that seen on Selmer USA/Bundy/Buescher clarinets.

Conn keywork is also rationalised in a similar fashion, but they often have grub screws on the sides of pillar heads to lock the point screws in place.

Hi Chris,
My Selmer Manhattan also has grub screws locking the point screws, as has the OP's clari.
