 Questions about P Series Selmer

The serial number is P0055386. Is this an A or Bflat clarinet?

The website listings I can find only show years of manufacture - Selmer P series from P4200 to P4699 are dated to 1953 (P4700 is 1954). None of the lists gives a model name or a pitch. Maybe someone here knows a more complete source

If this is an instrument you have in your possession, it should be easy enough to tell - compare it to a known Bb. If it's being advertised on a website, you may have to ask the seller.

Thank you, but I’ve discovered it is an American Selmer, which is why the serial number is longer than the French Selmer P Series. I am hoping someone may have some more information regarding the level of instrument-be it beginner, intermediate, or professional.

Maybe some pictures would help. It is most likely a student level instrument and will be pitched in Bb. Serial numbers aren’t often helpful in identifying instruments as manufacturers often don’t publish serial number tables.

Did Selmer make a pro horn in the States?

The earlier Omega model was a pro instrument. Other than that they only made Beginner and intermediate models under the Selmer USA name.
