 Clarinet "blue book"

Does anyone know of a clarinet "blue book", somewhere a person could find the value of a clarinet. I sort of was interested in a clarinet on ebay, but decided that the bidding had gone too high for me, but had still wondered what the actual value of the clarinet was.

After all the posts on scams, and wary ebay bidding, I don't want to get stuck with a P.O.S. clarinet. Or pay too much even for a good clarinet. :)

I dont know of any, but OUR Sneezy is the very best I know of!!! TKS to MarkC and all. We have so much fine-quality expertise [with little if any incentive to exagerate or diminish claims/facts] available, so I believe that , as others have and are doing, thread/post your questions and sift thru the advice freely given. Its always a "cavaet emptor" [let the buyer beware] world out there!! Don

Azzacca, I have bought four instruments off of e-Bay in the past year and I have always assumed that whatever I bid I will have at least that much in overhaul/reconditioning costs. If you use that kind of figuring in your initial thinking it might help you determine costs (bottom line). This will also affect your overall basis for resale plans (if any). I bought mine to keep.

There is a book, but it's very expensive. I can't remember what it's called--so guess I'm not much help. But, ask your music store owner to look it up in his book if you have a particular instrument you want to purchase or sell.

Brenda: Are you thinking of the New Langwill Index ?

Good resource, but it does not contain current pricing info.

I think Brenda is referring to the book that music dealers and pawn shops (the better ones anyway) keep around for reference. Not much help here either. I've seen it a couple of times but can't remember who publishes it either.
