O.K., Selmer experts, I need your help. There's a Selmer Omega/MG295 being auctioned on ebay ..."Buy It Now" for $699. It's mint, if the pictures are to be believed.I'm a bit gun-shy right now, as I am in the process of returning a horn I bought on ebay that turned out to be a total piece of crap. There is a crack in the bell; the cork job is so poor the horn actually "wobbles" when assembled; the "new" case included (not the one shone in the picture) is beat up and the horn crammed in to fit the case. I will not name the seller unless he refuses to refund my money. Stay tuned...
Back to business at hand. Is $699 a fair price for this Selmer model? I appreciate any feedback I can get from you all! And brenda S., you're not allowed to bid on THIS one...(just kiddin', hon...)

Mine didn't. In fairness I knew what I was buying and got what I was expecting. I paid less than $100.00 for an old Bundy Resonite and I wasn't expecting much. It sounds like you paid more and were expecting more.
The first time I played it I used the top of post-it notes as "cork" just to see if it played.
It is not unusual to get a clarinet from ebay that needs work. You do have a point on be misrepresented as to the case etc that you mentioned.

Carl, I'll look it up. But, don't worry, I won't bid on it. If it's the USA model, I wouldn't advise you do bid on it.
I have all my money tied up in new instruments right now.

Carl, I just checked it out. It's the USA version. It has a nice scrollwork pattern on the bell and a nice Selmer case. This guy has been running this instrument for a while, but I think he's a legit dealer. Notice, however, that if you return it there's a $50.00 restocking fee. So, you'll be out the shipping plus $50.00 if you don't like it.
It depends on what you're looking for. If you want a good intermediate clarinet that you don't spend much on--it's probably ok. But, if you want one that will have a good resale value later on--it's not ok. These haven't been very popular because they don't sound like the Paris Selmers (the Paris Omega is an excellent buy) and my dealer friend tells me he stopped carrying the USA one because it was "junk."
If I had $700.00 in my pocket, I'd save up a bit and get a Paris model.
