I saw this Klose Celebrated Method book on Ebay and I was thinking about bidding on it but I'm not sure if the price is right, how much does it cost new? THe seller also sent me the date of 1946 when I asked for the age, he said that was the only date written on the book. Is that the actually publishing date of the book, or just the copyright date?

The "Celebrated Method" is very easily found on SheetMusicPlus (that little box on the top of the page - just type in "Klose" and look at the second page of matches). Brand new it's $25. If you buy it via that little box you'll be helping out Sneezy.Org, too!

1946 is the copyright date of that particular version. The original was written back in the 1800s. It has been edited and reissued many times since then.
That particular individual book could have been printed at any time since 1946 as it is the same version that the Carl Fischer company still publishes.

A used Klose book may not have the fingering pullouts in the back. Mine, a old one from the 50s have a great fingering chart from 1896 in back with a wicked little exercise at the bottom.

On of the nea features of the Klose that I was required to purchase as a college freshman, was that it included the Rose studies as well as some great scale and arppegio work. It was considered the "Bible" of our course of study.

I bought a used Klose off eBay and was a bit disappointed in the condition when I got it. So, if you can afford the new one, as Mark says, buy it from a Sneezy person. It'll make you feel good and you'll have a nice, new, updated book. That is, unless you just want the old one.

Discussed before --- if you get the BIG ORANGE "THING" ... get thee to Kinko's (or a similar copy/printing store) & have the darn thing divided into at least 2 spiral bound books!!!
UNWIELDY AT BEST!
