 Press Release - David Lang

Hello all,

I am working on Press Release for my college supplemental auditions. I have been working off of the score preview on David's website and figuring out certain sections by ear and have also ordered the piece. Unfortunately, the piece is not going to arrive for over a week, and I'd really like to make some more progress in the interim. I know this isn't exactly Kosher, but I was wondering if anyone had the piece and would be willing to send me a pdf/scan. I'm only asking this since I've already ordered the piece, and I of course have no intention of distributing the piece to anyone else. If anyone has any concerns and has the piece I can also send a copy of my order confirmation.

On another note, the piece is brutal and I'd love to discuss any tips or experience people have with it.

Thanks,

Benjamin

Guess you'd already seen this, but I didn't know the piece until you brought it up so this was my introduction:

One of the more informative offerings from Mike Lowentern

Can't really help the OP but to continue the other reply... a great version of this is on the album This Is Not A Clarinet by Evan Ziporyn. By the way, he said once that, other than the pun, the name was originally because when pressing keys you get lower notes and when releasing them you get a high note... even though it is completely wrong... not sure if it was a joke but sounded like it wasn't :)

There's one weird thing in Mike Lowenstern's version... and that is that he thinks it's weird to end with that slow part :)

I'm afraid that story is true - it was a misunderstanding on David Lang's part regarding bass clarinet tone production...
