I would like to make my spare student B12 more useful.
I heard changing/upgrade barrel would make a huge difference for tones.
Any recommendations?
Thanks,

The Muncy Synthetic barrel is a great choice to upgrade a B12. For the price ($95) and performance, it is stellar:

I have a Buffet Prodige (the successor to the B12) I use one of the Svelte barrels by Brad Behn. I find it helpful in improving intonation as well as making the clarinet play more smoothly.

My personal favorites are the Behn and the zoom barrels. The Behn really helps focus the sound. The Zoom barrel by Paulus and Schuler makes the most significant difference in sound out of any barrel I’ve ever tried. It would be one of the best even without the gimmicky adjustment ring.

There are so many good barrels on the market today but many will play different on different clarinets because of the various bore sizes of the instrument and barrel. Intonation can be a problem with some. You pretty much have to try some to see or just get lucky. If you can contact a barrel maker and ask them which is best for your model, and if there's a return guarentee, that might be your best bet.

Thank you all for excellent input on the subject.
It's proven once again this board really helps folks who seek some guidance on various subjects.
I am going to try Behn's svelte (strange looking though) and how it will fit my need.
One thing that seems to be little odd, no one mentioned about Backun barrels which are being painted all over when you do the googling "clarinet barrels" while Muncy, svelte and zoom never showed up during the search.

I didn't suggest the Backun, which I have on two of they three clarinets, because for a non professional model I thought it would be too expensive campared to others. I'd still call Behn and talk to him first.
