 Playing Bach at Easter
Author: ruben

Happy Easter to all of you in spite of the sad circumstances. Quite a few of the Bach cantatas (and the Passions) have wonderful oboe d'amore parts that sound very good on the A clarinet. Now's the time to practice them. They are so melodic that they sound good even without the orchestra and singer(s).

Thank you Ruben for the tip.
I didn't realize that the Oboe D'amore was an A instrument.
I feel I just stumbled upon a treasure, especially with the beautiful concerto bwv 1055R!
With holiday greetings,
Erez

Let me second the recommendation for playing the Bach BWV 1055 concerto for oboe d'amore on A clarinet. This was part of my rep for many years and it is so much fun to play and hear. The keyboard part is challenging, also. You won't regret working on this.

I may have mentioned I once played a Bach Chaconne written for (unaccompanied I think) violin. Appropriate for clarinet and quite challenging.

Erez: the A clarinet has a lot of the mellowness of the oboe d'amore and Bach's pieces for the latter are all in the "comfort zone" for the clarinet in terms of range.
