Nylon Pins

Recently, the nylon pin in my LH F#/C# key on my Selmer Presence snapped in half, this has happened before and I simply took it to get repaired. I’m unable to get it repaired currently, and I believe it’s something relatively simple that I could do myself as there are multiple places that sell these pins, but I’m struggling with getting the other half of the pin out of the hole in the key. Multiple sources have said to apply heat and have it pop out but I’m not quite sure how to go about that without potentially damaging the wood (I read that someone recommended a heat gun or blowdryer, which does not seem like a good idea). Has anyone else attempted to repair this themselves, and if so, how? If this isn’t something I can do myself, is there a temporary fix that will allow me to use that key until I can get it professionally repaired?

You have to take the key off first, then use heat to remove the pin.

Once you get it out replace it with a metal or carbon fiber pin. I believe the aftermarket pins for Buffet instruments will fit but i'm not certain.

These are the replacement pins I would recommend, you may want to get in touch with the manufacturer and see if they fit Selmers. Unlike the OEM part these will never snap. Unfortunately nylon pins snapping are a big problem that manufacturers have refused to address.

While you're at it I would do both pins at once, if they've snapped twice it's only a matter of time.

Buffet and Selmer pins are not interchangeable.

Maybe worth adding, from (slightly vague) memory, the Buffet ones are larger i.e. you can modify a Buffet pin to fit a Selmer.

And if you modify a Buffet pin to fit a Selmer (I've done this on a 1948 BT), then reinforce the nylon pin with a steel core as you can see in the attachment. That can be done in a matter of seconds once all the gear is set up to do it and it's a fraction of the cost of aftermarket pins made from stainless steel or carbon fibre.
