I’m currently in the market for a new clarinet that’s at a professional level, or at least the advanced level. I know that the Buffet R13 is a well known professional clarinet and kind of like an industry standard, but are there other good clarinets out there? Any suggestions and personal experiences are welcome. Thanks!

Did you see this thread that's going in parallel? It's asking basically the same question.

I had a wonderful experience at the last clarinet show here in the States with the Italian made Patricola clarinets. I believe they are still at relatively low prices for top of the line horns.

There might be other "things" you may need to consider:
Resale value: are you going to keep the new clarinet for a long time? Even if you think so now, you still may want to upgrade in a year or two.
Availability: I had better luck when I bought an instrument in a store, compared to buying used off the ``auction site".
The Bb I bought new in the store, sounds slightly better than my new A that I got online from the same store. However, the A has better tuning than Bb…
3. Will you need an A clarinet in the future and is it available in the same or similar model as the Bb you are going to buy?
If buying used, I had good luck with E12 I bought off someone local thorough craigslist.

Just a thought. If you can make it to Reno, Nevada between June 24 and June 28 when the International Clarinet Association is having its annual Clarinet Fest, you can try dozens of clarinets from different makers. It's noisy but you'll find here more different makes and models in one place than you can find anywhere else.

On the east coast, it is very doable to try buffets in NYC showroom, head to NJ to try a ciuple of Selmers and then go to Postville to try Uebels. The downside is you cannot compare different instruments directly.

Don't they run the Woodwind Boutique in Pottsville, Penn? The Uebels at Vienna Music in New Jersey sell for more because Larry Frank sets them up. So you can buy Uebels now from both sources. I'm not sure about Mr. Cotton and his music store in Alabama, though; does he still carry them?
