I clean my instrument daily. Swab it out and everything. Today when I took the two joints apart, I noticed some black buildup in between. It was a powder-like substance. It scraped off easily. What is it?

Sounds like it could be shellac. Wurlitzer utilizes a coating of shellac inside the bore of their horns which is to be removed by the factory after the first year.
Other manufacturers use a healthy amount of stain to make there instrument bodies appear darker.
I assume it's something along those lines. Chris P. may have better insight into this.

It could just be the buildup of cork grease and whatever moisture is there when you put it away.
My Wurlitzers haven’t shown any sign of the shellac from flaking yet, and I’m about to hit three years with them.

Oh, you really should have that polished out. It is there only to get the wood through the first year.
I learned about this years after selling mine that I used "as-is" for 12 years!
