Making a comeback...and infor on Mobo mouthpieces...

Hello!

Yes, I'm back in the Clarinet world...last chair, LA winds, and I have a new mouthpiece coming a zinner blank MoBo Orchestra+ facing from North Country winds in NY. Does anyone have experience with this mouthpiece? I wanted something to replace the old Fobes CF SanFran model that had for years and years (same mpc). Now with my rehabbing S1 Bb, on we go to LA! Very excited. I'm almost 59. Thank you.

It is a much different facing from the CF. It may take a little adjustment period.

Hmm...going from a Fobes CF (0.96@34) to the Moba Orchestra+ which is 1.12@36, to me, that is a massive change! I read the Moba ad almost as a warning: "For the clarinetist with a developed air stream and embouchure, the "O" is ideal for orchestral playing."

Did you try it before you bought it? From my readings on this BB, Zinners don't seem to have a history of projecting that well. Is there something about the CF that you didn't like anymore?

Just curious.

For quite a few years, Clark Fobes made mouthpieces from Zinner blanks as well, though his may have had rather different specs from the ones used by Backun for the MoBa. If yours is a Zinner, it should say so on the side. In the Moba line (which has now been discontinued and has been superseded by the Hawkins/Zinner Vocalise models), the C facing at 0.99 mm would be the closest to the Fobes CF.

The Zinner that I was referring to above was the generic, standard "A" Zinner which had a very deep baffle. Yes, many mouthpiece makers were using Zinners and, yes, many of these were "customized" to their unique specifications which may have used a more shallow baffle. The only other generic, standardized Zinner that I know of is the "E" model which had a much shallower baffle and played at 442.

If the baffle is really deep, a 1.12 tip may be discouraging to play. Probably a tad bit resistant and projection may be a big issue.
