Anybody tried a Pete Fountain glass mpc? Mine seems very stuffy compared to
hard rubber mpcs. Tried various strength reeds, to no avail. Any ideas?

If the Pete Fountain is stuffy, it probably has nothing to do with the material of the mouthpiece --- blame the facing. Try a bunch of other mouthpieces, both hard rubber and glass. Try a few Pomarico crystals, for example.

The Pete Fountain mouthpiece is designed primarily for Jazz playing and has a rather "open" facing requiring not a very stiff reed and a rather relaxed embrouchure to play properly. Re-examing how you are playing the mouthpiece and re-evaluate the situation before any drastic steps are taken toward refacing, etc.

Hi Donn - My several glass mps of varying lays have never given me a stuffy feeling. The Pete F 's are of "large-bore" [15.0 mm] character so my thot is that you may have a bit of "bore-mismatch" with the barrel and UJ, which depends on what make cl [and size] you are using it on. You can determine if there is a "step" between the bottom of the mp and the top of the barrel socket by feel with a little finger, which might be your problem. If so, I dont know of any "reasonable" solution other than to find a large bore cl to use it with, or resell and buy a Pomarico or Selmer Clarion, I like my Selmer! Luck, Don
