Need a bell ring for my Rossi
Author: kenabbott

The ring at the top of the bell broke. The last time this happened, Luis was kind enough to ship me one from Santiago, but I think there's probably a simpler way.

Any idea on how to solve this problem? It's a non-standard size, about 4mm wide in diameter than the bell rings only Selmers and Buffets.

I could go to a hardware store and look for a piece of plastic that can be cut and/or machined.

Thoughts?

That's like the clarinet equivalent of using duct tape to fix your new Porsche...

On a serious note, I would not try to do a cheap and simple repair on a Rossi. Any compitent repair tech with a lathe could machine you a ring from a material such as Delrin or Ebonite. This will look far better than trying to make something from plumbing pipe.

If it's a wooden socket ring, then that is always likely to crack.

You're best having a metal or a carbon fibre band fitted to the socket which will give the socket the strength it needs and that can then be hidden by a cosmetic wooden one fitted over the top of it.

I would follow the above advice- it would give you permanent solution.
