Any long term Behn Aria Reed users out there?
Author: rtaylor

I recently "rediscovered" the Brad Behn Aria reeds. So far I like a lot of what they have to offer.

I'm curious to hear from anyone who has been a long time user of these reeds and their experiences with them.

I've used them regularly but not exclusively for maybe three years. They give a very nice, clear, solid sound and are also very good for articulation. I have three or four types of reeds in the case at all times, because when the weather changes, some types seem to get better and others worse. I'd guess I do about half my performances on Behns, though.

I have 20+ boxes of different brand/series of reeds on my desk, and my current dozen best reeds include 6 Arias with the oldest Aria dated 10/21/18.
But, a lot of the reason they work for me is that the Aria 'cut' conforms well to my mouthpiece facing. If they work for you, that is a good sign that they are well suited to your facing also.
The age is due to the quality of the cane, and good reed care.

I have been using them for a while, not sure how long. They are very responsive, producing a nice clear resonant tone. They have become my go to reed as they just work with minimal fuss. Over the years I have tried a variety of reeds, many which required a fair amount of adjustment to get exactly what I want. The Aria reeds have been very user friendly.

I've used them exclusively on his mouthpieces that I have been playing for 3+ years. They're the best!

I have been using them for close to three years as well. I found them to be a revelation after years of V12s. There are some variations box to box (one batch I got was much softer at the same strength, for example), but generally they are the best reeds I found for me.

I play a Gregory Smith 1+ mouthpiece and Aria 4s.
