As many of you will have read, Yahoo Groups is closing down most of its functionality - deleting all group archives and stored files within a few days and completely ending all functions, as far as I can tell, apart from what amounts to a real-time listserve allowing members to continue sending and replying to group messages over email, but with no archival service for future traffic. The three groups I am a member of are in discussions (ranging from mildly frantic through panicked) about how to retrieve their archives and where to continue their activity though other services.
We owe a great debt to Mark and Glenn because they have kept this and a number of other BBoards and listserves on our own servers, independent of Yahoo Groups or Facebook or any other global service.
I have very little idea of the work and time it actually takes to keep woodwind.org up and running, but those efforts are why we aren't now casting about for a way to preserve our history. We might all think about Yahoo Groups when Mark starts the next fund drive to help maintain this service.
Thank you, Mark and Glenn.
Karl

Well said, kdk,...well said. Yes, thank you Mark and Glenn for all that both of you are doing each and every day for clarinet players/enthusiasts around the world and for maintaining an extremely invaluable (IMO) archive history.
Quite a few years ago, I asked Mark C to change my user name from simply "Dan" to "Dan Shusta".
I requested this for several reasons, one of them being genealogical. I'm hoping (with my fingers crossed) that some great, great, great, etc., grandson/granddaughter will do a search on my name and come up with this Bulletin Board site. I want my posterity to know about my connection to the clarinet world. I already have 2 great granddaughters. Who knows? Maybe they'll take up playing the clarinet some day.
Besides my personal interests, the amount of what I deem to be incredibly valuable information securely stored in the BB archive server(s) is beyond words for me to describe.
I hope this valuable BB remains in operation for at least another 100 years!
p.s. My backing name change went almost all the way back to Sneazy!

Wow ! That's news to me, 'tho it doesn't surprise me given the lack of activity on many groups since the rise of other more rapid and visual social media sites. Thank you Karl for the heads-up, and thank you Mark and Glenn for all your hard work. I really appreciate the quality of the exchanges on this board, and the absence of trolls and sniping.
