 Barrel stuck (unmovable)
Author: Granto01

So I was trying out a buffet pre - r13 a clarinet from my school for orchestra and I had the ever so bright idea of trying the shorter barrel on my playing flat selmer bb clarinet.
Well
The barrel is literally jammed onto the instrument and no amount of force will take it off.
I have read about the wood maybe swelling but as far as I know the barrel is snug and quite literally glued to the upper tenon and probably not the cork
What do I do here?

Search here on "Stuck Barrel". This comes up frequently and has been dealt with extensively.

My bad diagnosis of the problem :D
Used a spoon to wedge apart after shoving it in freezer for half hour

Hopefully a day......or so.....may allow the wood to contract through drying enough to allow you to get the barrel off. I would also suggest trying a judicious amount of "rocking back and forth" (frowned upon normally because this causes rounding of the tenon) which helps loosen stuck tenons sometimes.

OK, so now that you've got them apart, is the tenon that tight in the socket? You can (should) get a repair person to adjust the barrel socket or the tenon so that doesn't happen again.

He was trying Buffet barrel on Selmer clarinet.

I try (and sometimes have used) Buffet barrels on my Selmer clarinets (10Gs) fairly often. I have no generic problem with a mismatch of tenons and sockets. Some fit tighter than others. I suspect I would have the same experience with contemporary Selmer barrels.

I guess that pre-R13 barrel he had was not a good fit on his Selmer.

The barrel he tried was not a good fit for his instrument. I just have my doubts that it has anything to do with Selmer or Buffet designs.

Not enough details to be sure but it sounds like he still wants or needs each barrel to fit well on its own instrument. I wouldn't adjust the socket of what seems like a barrel from a random instrument they are just borrowing from their school (they haven't even mentioned if it worked on their clarinet). I also wouldn't adjust the tenon based on that random barrel, which they might not even use on their clarinet. Other barrels might fit fine on the tenon the way it is, wouldn't want to reduce it to find most other barrels are now loose.
