Tom has been putting up some new video content that I’ve been enjoying and thought I’d share this one. I can’t say I’m very knowledgeable about reeds, except that my basic understanding of balancing reeds has made a huge difference in my playing. Especially when it comes to relaxing and enjoying the playing experience rather than fighting my clarinet. Tom hints at the idea that what he is saying is somehow controversial. Is it? And has anyone else seen their playing completely transformed after committing to balancing their reeds?

The only thing controversial about Tom's approach to reeds is that it's not complicated, complex, frustrating, and time consuming.

I’ve had great success with his method.
And if I can do it, anyone can!

When I used cane reeds, I found Tom's ATG product very useful. Balancing a reed doesn't always make it good, but I saved many reeds by balancing.
Now I'm using Legere on my clarinet and saxes, and they're well-balanced as received. If I had an unbalanced Legere reed, I would try ATG, using 120 grit sandpaper.
