Hi folks, I’m working on 3 octave scales/arpeggios and am wondering how people finger the top A of a slurred A major/minor arpeggio. I’m using the same fingerings for the top E and A, but switching pinkys from RH D#/G# key for the E, to LH F#/C# key for the A. This works fine when tongued, but not when slurred. Is it just a case of working on the voicing to get it to slur smoothly, or do people use alternate fingerings in this situation? I have tried adding the RH ring finger to the A - which allows me to do the slur, but sounds quite flat. I’ve tried a few other fingerings but can’t seem to find one that is both convenient, and in tune!

Play the high E without the Eb-D# key.
Add r.h. F#-C# key and r.h. 1st finger side Eb-D# key to slur up to high A.

The fingering with F# & 1st side key is slightly sharp on my R13's, though in many contexts it's probably acceptable. I used to use that or something similar - different lh pinky keys and with or without the side key - with varying success.
For some time now I've been using the basic E fingering (including the rh pinky G#D# key) plus the lower two side trill keys, plus lowering the rh rings with rh index pressing down at the base of its ring near the hinging rod. Lowering just the rings closes the top padded hole on the bottom joint without closing any finger holes, and corrects the pitch. It's not hard and seems fairly smooth and quick, E to A and back. YMMV.

To get a dependable transition from E to A, I've fingered A by playing E, then lifting the left middle finger.

claricolin- I do what you described. It can be done pretty smoothly but takes a lot of practice. I have also used GBK's suggestion, which does work well.

I just voice it. But if it did not respond for me I would investigate other fingerings too.
