Dear All,

I purchased this Buffet Crampon clarinet second hand for my daughter who is about to start her clarinet lessons, and I was wondering if I was given a correct deal. I cannot even tell if it’s an E11 C model as requested by the teacher. So I was hoping fellow members of this board might be able to help me out identifying this and also what is worth.

I attach a few pictures.

I would be handy to have a photo of the complete instrument, but from the picture of the top joint that format of inline trill keys looks much more like Noblet or Vito than Buffet.

This looks like a E11 C clarinet. That seems like a strange instrument for a beginner, but I suppose it's good for transposing and would be smaller and easier to hold for a child.

That's a genuine E11 C clarinet.

Personally I can't see why C clarinets aren't more commonplace for young beginners as they're easier to hold plus they can play from the same music as other Concert Pitch instruments taught in primary schools.

Hello everyone,

Thanks a lot for your replies: we decided to give it back and buy a new E11 C clarinet. Our daughter will probably use it for 2-3 years and I guess a new piece will have a better reseller value. As about the choice for a C clarinet, it's her teacher who advised us, just like some of you said here: she's only 7 and this model is suited for smaller hands. We'll see.

Thanks again.

Unless the used E11 C you already have, needs to be serviced, there is no need to buy a new instrument.
The re-sale value of the used instrument will fall somewhat but probably much less comparing to buying new and selling it used 2-3 y. later
