Barrel for Selmer Series 10 Full Boehm

Hey there
so I know that I posted about this approx. a year ago

I bought a X series (X6295) series 10 full boehm almost a year ago and it came with a mismatched barrel. Right now its playing real flat in the lower register will also playing every sharp at the top. Throat tones are kinda wack right now.
It came with a series 9 barrel and from my understanding the series 9 had a larger bore? I'm in need of a replacement barrel but I'm not sure that I can do this efficiently without some advice.

I could

A. I heard from the local music store that Backun barrels would do the job and I got back an email saying that their Selmer Paris fit would work

B. Wait countless days for a Series 10 barrel to show up on ebay

C. Buy another series 10 with a barrel and work with both

What do I do here? Are there other barrel options?
Thanks

You could work with someone like Allan Segal to have a custom barrel made. Or, you could buy a Buffet-style barrel (Moennig, Chaddash, etc.), which I suspect will have a narrower bore than the 10, and have a good repair person ream it to match the clarinet. You could probably do the same thing with a 10G barrel, but those are hard to find these days, too. Or, you could have a good repair person make a rubber lining for the barrel you have that can be reamed to the right shape and diameter.

All of those options are more expensive, probably, than waiting for one to show on EBay, but with Allan or with a competent tech you'd get a usable result.

I'm a little doubtful that you'd get such a tuning discrepancy between registers only because the barrel has the wrong bore size. Have you had anyone knowledgeable look at it?

Karl

There are three Selmer Paris barrels on that “auction” sight this week!

Hmmm... Since pulling the barrel out a lot would make the throat tones flatter without changing the bottom of the horn as much, maybe you have an "A" clarinet there. :=)

Better to have a good barrel maker fix your problem.
