Yes! Two great points. I use German size (and even Eb clarinet size) ligatures because the Legeres are very thin (up and down) and I tend toward mouthpieces that are narrow to begin with. So yes, I'd recommend STARTING with German size.
The other great little thing about the "one top screw" model above, is that it comes with three different thicknesses of composite material cylinders on which the leatherette is held. This allows you to customize the size of the ligature to your mouthpiece (still I'd use the German one).
Ordering from Thomann is a flat beginning shipping charge for a substantial amount of weight (for the items you are getting). So it is "cheaper" if you have a few items that you order at one time. I think shipping starts at $30 or so.
