Lorin Levee was well known and admired not only for his sterling orchestral work with the Los Angeles Philharmonic but especially for his performances of difficult clarinet compositions by contemporary composers such as Berio, Birtwistle, Martino, and Jouni Kaipainen (the Carpe Diem Clarinet Concerto). He seems to have done little or no commercial recording as a soloist. Any extant private recordings of him performing solo compositions ought certainly to be made available, if legally possible.
