 Clarinet Age

I just looked up this new, well new 'old' Buffet Evette clarinet, and judging by the serial number and the list on this website, it was made in 1889, but I didn't think they made the modern b flat clarinet back then, so maybe someone can double check me on this.
The serial number is D3580.
Thanks!
Sara :)

I went to the Boosey site, and read it as made in 1965.

Actually the modern Bb clarinet was developed in the 1840s but it was many decades before it became wide spread.

You have to be very careful looking up serial numbers and make sure you have the right list. The list you were looking at only applies to Buffet professional level clarinets not the intermediate and student grades. Bill's date of 1965 or so should be about right for the Evette.

Thanks I really appreciate it, I knew something was fishy about that date!
