I tried this out for a couple of months about 6 years ago. I am guessing the various videos of excerpts and solo literature I made for Ricardo are still up on the website. I gave up on it because of the following reasons:

1. It took about a month to receive feedback on a video. I realize he’s a busy guy but it made it difficult to keep the continuity going.

2. Because it was not a real-time system we were not able to have the back and forth you would want in a lesson, meaning I couldn’t keep adjusting things based on immediate feedback. I found this aspect to be quite frustrating.

3. He was not willing to make a lesson plan tailored to what he perceived I needed to advance. Maybe you have to really study with him to receive something like that.

4. He didn’t read or interact in the forums and most of the questions sat unanswered. Maybe he wasn’t required to, but as a result I found that feature useless.

5. I felt that some of the effects I was trying to bring across in my playing were not captured well by the equipment. This could just mean I needed better equipment.

It wasn’t all bad, his recordings of the various orchestral excerpts and solo literature were inspiring and helpful, as is watching the videos of the other students, which were posted on the site with his responses.

Again, it’s been 6-7 years since I used the service and it might be completely different now. At the time, I was willing to pay more for better access to Ricardo, but no such option existed.

If the situation has improved I would love to hear about it and maybe I could be convinced to try it again.
