 ClarinetFest 2019 Just Weeks Away
Author: Claire Annette
Date:   2019-05-29 22:31

Decided to edit my original post.

Has anyone started a thread on ClarinetFest, which is less than two months away? I've never been to one and am very excited about seeing some of my heroes, visiting the vendors, and learning as much as I can!

I've found in the past that a central place for information can be hard to find. When the "show" was in Orlando I was recommended to speak to the clarinet instructor at the host facility.

So I would suggest trying the Assistant Professor of clarinet at the University of Tennessee, Victor Chavez:

vchavez@utk.edu

as published on the UT website.

I'm from Italy so I sadly can't be there... but I wanted to know if there a dedicated ClarinetFest t-shirt for sale online (and that ships to EU). I'm broke atm but if it's not too expensive I would love to own one! Please let me know, I'm a conservatory student. thank you

Kaos: Did you go to the ClarinetFest in Assisi 6 years ago? It was fantastic; in the world's most beautiful place! But God, was the weather hot! Greetings from Paris. Ruben

I can't believe that ClarinetFest is next week. We are very busy making final preparations,

We are very excited to see old friends and to also make new acquaintances.

We will be in booth #908, so please stop by to say hello.

We will have over 60 brand new Grabner HiTech Clarinet mouthpieces to try, as well as a new barrel which I have developed, plus a small surprise!

Let's make this a ClarinetFest to remember!

Walter Grabner

The future is here!

I just got a courtesy e-mail from Brad Behn stating that the vendors will be exhibiting from the 25th through the 27th. Good to know they are not vending on Wednesday.

Also (for you late registers), registration will be in the same building as the vendors the Student Union Building and the vending hours will be 9-5 Thurs through Sat.

Is there anywhere on the ICA site that gives details about the various lectures scheduled?

All I can find is the calendar, but no details.

(I hope I don't miss a good performance to hear a lecture on the trends in cork grease formulation since Denner's time. :-) )

http://clarinet.org/clarinetfest/clarinetfest-2019/

Scroll down a little. On the left, you'll see "schedule." As you click on each of the five dates listed, you'll find an Excel document with the various performance/lectures listed per hour and per venue (there are at least three different sites for these).

I am trying to be forgiving of the clumsiness of the way the information is listed. It must be done by the host chapter and they are working clarinetists with other things on their minds.

Paul,

Yes, I got the schedules. What I was lamenting is that there are no details--not even the subjects--of the lectures.

Maybe we can put forth some suggestions for what basic information should be available......next time.

Oh, almost forgot. There is a mobile APP guide book

https://guidebook.com/g/clarinetfest2019/

Visit URL on your device and hit the download button.

Maybe more stuff is in there.

Woe to us who refuse to pay for and lug around smart phones!

hmmmmm...............

I fully understand both sides of that. I am a luddite at heart and went kicking and screaming into smartphonage, but I had to be in charge of ten people who would ONLY text each other.

Of course just about every kid has one as well. When I talk about the need to get a metronome, I have to stop myself and say that there are a bunch of free apps they can use.

There are a bunch of cheap alternatives at WalMart that use "pay-as-you-go" options and Metro PCS (really T-Mobile) is $50/mo with all the bells and whistles.

but I still don't know if the information you need is in the Guide (I don't need it and won't load it).........anybody?

Paul Aviles, thank you for that link to the Guidebook app. I've got it on my phone now and feel armed and ready for Clarinet Fest. My husband and I arrive tomorrow. It's my first. Can't wait!

Paul

Ditto on being a Luddite. I am a "card carrying" member ...

I'd go back to spring of 1947 and just stay.

Only one nation had "the bomb" ... no transistors, therefore no small digital computers to evolve into the national pastime of staring at smartphones for 9 hours a day ... and you and I would be sending snail-mail to each other for 3 cents.

In my pocket is a cheap Samsung flip-phone ... I am am thinking of eliminating that ... seriously! Can you still get rotary analog phones?

Tom
