Would love to hear any comments good or bad about Backun Q and F clarinets. Tried a Q and really liked it.

Too bad you never received any replies to your question. I'd like to know this, as well!

The F is no longer made. As a Backun artist I have tried the F. It was a very good instrument with a solid tone and good intonation.

The Q is a great instrument with most of the Lumiere design. Again a good sound with many colours and really even intonation.

Would it be a good idea to buy these clarinets online? I always wanted to try a backun clarinet, but because of where I live(Hawaii) it's been really hard to have my hands on them. I was thinking about getting one online but it was always a bit worrying to spend a lot of money on something I've never even tried yet.

I can’t be sure if Backun have a trial period. Perhaps worth contacting and find out

Check out the Model Q from Miles DeCastro at North Country Winds:

Miles is the official US warranty service technician for Backun, and he did excellent work on my previous MoBa clarinet. I believe he has a two-week full refund policy.

No F, but Q is amazing. It is quite dark and warm. As a former 10G and R13 owner, I like the Q sound better than both. Unlike many who have posted here, my 10G was darker than my R13. I never went to custom with any of those three manufacturers, as I don't make a full living from clarinet.

Of the 3 the Buffet was probably the easiest to play, but it also sounded the worst (to me), not that it was bad.

When I gave my CX to my trusted technician for COA, I brought in my Q to show him as had never seen or played one. He was impressed with the build and sound.

I know this post is old, but find one to play. You may find that forever horn like I did.

Backun Q, Yamaha CX (YCL 850), Normandy 4, Selmer Signet 100

I've tried a good few Q clarinets. I don't think any of the ones I tried were very well set up, though. I found them all really stuffy and resistant, and this is coming from someone who prefers a bit of resistance on a clarinet.

The ergonomics were strange to me, but I could definitely adapt.

Really nice sound though. I really wanted to like it.
