Any info on Saltone Clarinet would be greatly appreciated. Have searched and found nothing.

I found this on the interweb:

I'm not sure what it is. It doesn't look like any Selmer that I've seen, "student" or otherwise. I had a weird student model clarinet when I started. The shop owner said there were tons of lower quality horns that had names of local stores, players, etc. embossed on them. So there can be any number of different names on introductory level horns.

Thanks. That's about as far as I got.

That looks a lot like an older Selmer Signet clarinet - essentially a Bundy but with pointed tops on the pad cups instead of domed tops. I've seen them stamped 'Cavendish' as well.

Chris,

I'm not as well versed on the older student models but the straight side keys don't look right to me for anything sold in the US.

The straight, in-line trill keys and the conical pad cups look exactly like a Leblanc Vito. These were the basis of other 'stencil' clarinets, e.g. the Vox Ampliphonic.

If it is a Vito stencil then it's a good quality student instrument if set up properly.

Those trill keys are also extremely common on Chinese instruments. I've seen "Selman" clarinets with logos designed to look like the Selmer logo in order to trick people into buying the instrument. I imagine this is the case with the Saltone.

There were some Bundys made with Leblanc-style inline side/trill keys (probably from the '70s), but most have offset side/trill keys.

What's odd about this Saltone clarinet is the RH ring key foot (3rd photo) which has rounded sides to it (like Bundys and B12s) instead of the flared one with points on both sides as you'd expect to see on Leblanc, Noblet, Normandy and Vito clarinets.

I've seen that Vito/Bundy mix on Taiwanese clarinets stamped Trevor James, Artemis and Sapphire, but they're not as well built as Vitos or this Saltone one:

Here's a Bundy clarinet with inline trill/side keys, but it's got the usual Bundy-style domed pad cups.
