The V12 reed is cut from a thicker blank, so the cane AT THE TIP is from a part of the tube that is furthest from the bark... making the TIP less springy/stiff than a reed cut from a thinner blank (ie blue box vandoren). The overall design may be stiffer (esp on a shorter lay mouthpiece) as the centre of the reed is thicker, but the cane at the tip is LESS stiff.
