 Counterfeit Instruments ...

As you know you're not allowed to post links to current eBay listings (you can post closed listings) and you may see a clarinet that's not what it seems.

If you have any doubts or questions regarding any instruments you're unsure of, then please post the link on this Facebook page so we can look into things for you so you won't waste your hard-earnt cash on anything dodgy or possibly end up being done for buying counterfeit goods depending what the laws are in your region.

Hi, Chris,

Thank you so much for your reply yesterday and your post today.

I was emailed by the admin that they deleted my post due to "active eBay links are not permitted". To be honest, that was my first post. And I do NOT know about this rule. Usually most BBS forum has a FAQ or Rule post pin on the top of all posts so every new member can see it. My apology.

Anyway, I went back to my browsing history to find your Facebook page today. So glad I did that. Do you have any recommendation for a clarinet for my 6th grader? We tried one year and he was not that into it but decided to continue it into 7th grade. Like I said, we bought an old Evette from a senior student who bought it from the school instrument rental company. Now my careless little one lost one screw, bent one key and the rental company said they no longer carried the parts so they can't fix it.

Thanks again!

I'm sure someone specialising in woodwind repair in your area has or can get spare parts for Evette (and older Buffet B12) clarinets and can put your Evette back into working order. Bent (or broken) keys aren't a big deal for anyone with experience to sort out.

This is the type of point screw they use if that's the one that's missing:

And the rod screws are still the same as the current ones if it's one of them that's missing.

And just in general, on that auction site, there are always dozens of counterfeit clarinets for sale. If you visit one of the amazon-esque sites for products from that region of the world, they don't even try to hide it--supposedly Buffet "Festival" and "Tosca" models but in hard rubber, R-13's with the model number stamped on the front, and even fake Yamaha student clarinets at 20% of the cost of a real one.

Thanks a lot, Chris.

I clicked on your link. Guess what? Don't laugh at me. I don't even know what kind of screw we are missing.

Do you know how much does it cost to fix a bent key? Our Evette has been re-padded re-corked before. We guess we need that also.

As for the repair, we did ask school band director. She said the only one she knew was a similar rental company in nearby school district. I did a search in my area only found one individual. All others are stores. Should I go with the store or the individual repairer?

Thanks again.

Remy, Whereabouts are you located, just in general terms. If we know where you are it's probable that somebody on this forum can point you in the right direction.

Aliexpress is full of Buffet counterfeit clarinets, they have the Tosca and all professional models. Be careful when you buy 2nd hand instruments, I saw some of them for sale... Usually you immediately spot them because they come in weird/cheap cases, different from the original ones.

Why knock Aliexpress - they have clarinets that no one else has: https://tinyurl.com/y6j9cyk6 and shipping costs are very low!

For example:

Bb 17 buttons bakelite A clarinet popularize trademark G clarinet falling tune B clarinet copper buttons G clarinet

Clarinet ABS 17 Key bB Flat Soprano Binocular Clarinet with Cleaning Cloth Gloves 10 Reeds Screwdriver Case Woodwind Instrument

What's not to like?
