 Screw for Mazzeo Clarinet Mechanism
Author: jordan.1210

In my quest to collect clarinets, I recently picked up a Mazzeo system clarinet for $50 (plastic body so I’m assuming it’s a Bundy). While it could benefit from some work, it plays fine for what I plan to use if for (still much better than my $30 metal clarinet)

However there seems to be a slight issue. As of right now the Mazzeo mechanisms do not work for throat Bb (A key plus any combination of LH 2 and RH 123). Doing a bit of inspection, it looks like the part to push on the mechanism to open the side Bb key is missing its screw. The pin is there (seems to be captive) but the screw to make it protrude outward isn’t.

Just to get an idea of size, I tried a pivot screw from the clarinet whose threads were too small and a 4-49 screw I had which was too big.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, to clarify, it looks to be just be the screw that allows the keys to actuate the Mazzeo mechanism to open throat Bb.

But I think that screw has to fit inside a little spiral spring that easily gets lost... I MAY have both the screw and spring in a little plastic bag in a drawer at home....

Found the left hand spare Mazzeo piece. Too late to check it tonight. I will look to see if Donald has found/sent his screw and spring first.

Sorry Jordan, Computer problems. Both my Mazzeo left hand pieces have a differnt joint than your photo without the screw area. Will try to upload it - (sometimes it doesn't post!)

Thanks for looking, even if it's a different version of the Mazzeo keywork. I appreciate the effort.

For the time being, I think I have found a screw that should work to keep the pin protruding (from a PS4 controller weirdly enough). I'll try playing it tomorrow maybe to make sure it works.

I learned something too. I didn't know there were other mechanism designs.

Not sure, but I think that perhaps the design was slightly different from the pro model vs the Bundy or Signet versions. The lower level designs were a little simpler.
