Hi all,
I am looking for the original basset clarinet part of k581. I was not able to find it on imslp.
The soprano A clarinet adaptations differ a bit, especially in the 4th variation of the last movement.
The versions I found on imslp have it the first chord starting the a full octave higher, in C, while the notes are the same, it is a full octave higher.
It is also the most commonly recorded version.
In a few basset clarinet recordings, you can here it starting from the low C.
On an A soprano clarinet, Jozsef Balogh's recording on Naxos instead has that cord ast(low) G , E, G, C and so on.
I attached the two versions, the alternate i created using online software (flat.io) and powerpoint to cut and paste, but think it does not look half bad.
In my opinion, of the two comprises, the one that starts in C somewhat loses the unique wide range of the clarinet that is a strong "feature" (for a lack of a better word) of this piece.
Thoughts?

There is no surviving original basset clarinet part for the quintet. The first edition was for normal clarinet range. All basset clarinet versions are speculative reconstructions.
