Does anyone know where I could find a diagram to show the best order in which to remove and replace the keys on my Vito bass clarinet ? I have diagrams for my soprano but they are not suitable for the bass.
My reason for removing the keys is to properly clean out the tone holes. They haven't been done since it was made in 1971 (yuck !)

Look at the instrument. What is on the "outside" and has to come off first, to allow keys underneath to be removed? You'll figure it out.
Get a large foam board, and as you remove each key with its associated screw(s), line the parts up in the order removed. When you're all done, assemble in the opposite order. It's really that simple.

You could take pictures as you disassemble and use them in reverse to put it back together.

Thank you David and Steven. I should have thought of these ideas and would have done in my younger days. I am now in my mid 80's and my brain is as bad as my playing has become ! Ah well.

As a safety net you could also number each key, lever etc with a piece of masking tape as you sequentially remove them (always a risk of a key board getting accidentally knocked over) !!
Personally I usually prefer to replace all screws and rods back into their respective instrument positions rather than keep them on a key board. Just my choice.
Not quite at mid 80s yet, though not far to go (God willing) so can fully empathise with your comment.
Most depressing aspect is when however hard one practices, you know that at best all you can do is slow down the rate of decline.

Line the keys up as you take them off and replace them in reverse. And yes, a picture never hurts.

I did this last year, and with photos it worked fine. I did take a lot of photos though.
