I was dragged to KMart to buy someone a new Gameboy today. I saw a BernzWell Micro Torch which looked pretty good for $23.99. They claim it goes to 1700c/3200f (immsmr) .... it runs off Butane lighter fluel (gas) & when you fill it ... it will run for 80 minutes (don't know at what fuel opening --- this was the advertising). Butane lighter fuel isn't that expemsive. How do you think this compares to the Ferree's 16.50 job? Best, mw

Technicians have had problems with jet blockages on the cheap copies.
At that price there is possibly no flame adjustment.
The temperature spec is irrelevant. They're all much the same, and the object that you are heatiing, unless it is really small like a pin head, will not get anywhere near this FLAME temperature.

If it has a Perry-jet system to draw air around the base and into the flame like most Burnz-o-matic propane torches, it may get too hot too quick. I have one of those with the smallest tip they make. You can turn a pad cup blue in seconds. If it has a gentle flame like a cigarette lighter, it might be O K. I would like to try one of these myself, but on a cadaver first.

Willie, thanks. Yes, it _was_ the Bernz-o-matic (not Bernzwell). It comes with a soldering tip which they warn does get real hot.
Bill, thank you, too. I had no idea what the temperature of a match flame was, approx. 660 degrees, wow! Great diagram --- a picture really is worth a .... well you know.
I ordered the L56 earlier in the week. : )
Best, mw

I keep telling myself that I need to get new reading glasses &/or a better work light.
I was trying to burn up the fuel fast so I can return the L60 torch, and get the L56 torch. I found that the butane cartridge (inside the transparent L60 hand grip) has a fuel flow adjustment. It adjusts the blue part of the flame from about 5/8 to 7/8 inches.

I've used the Blazer torch in my office for years. It has a cylindrical vent adjustment to change the temperatoure of the flame. It also has a valve to adjust the fuel flow rate. It is capable of enough heat output to silversolder (or un-solder) your keywork.
You can set the vent closed and then you will get a yellow cooler flame. It may be a bit sooty, but it is comprable to a small bunsen burner or alcohol torch.
I is easy to set the flame high and have an almost invisible flame. This flame is fully capable of turning Grenadilla into charcoal. As I said on an earlier post, I wouldn't let it get within ten feet of my clarinet.

Terry there are at least 3 versions of the Blazer torch. The best ones apparently have ajustment for both air and fuel, so presumably a SMALL blue flame is also possible. (BTW a bunsen burner flame in use is pale blue with a darker blue centre)
