I just came back from hearing Anthony McGill perform the Debussy Premiere Rhapsody with the Balitmore Symphony. He also played the Mozart but due to traffic problems on I-64 i was delayed and unable to hear that segment of the concert, however, based on his dynamic and superb performance of the Debussy i have no doubt in my mind that his Mozart was just as fabulous if not moreso! Anthony McGill is most definetly one of the greats of our era. His flawless performance of the Debussy, with it's lilting melodic line and and impeccable technique. McGill not only demonstrated his command of musical phrasing but also his command of the rigorous technique endowed to the clarinet. He is truly a marvel. Such gorgeous tone!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!! He also has great stage presence which in and of itself is captivating! The Cinncinatti Symphony is blessed to have such a young, talented, and vivacious performer in its prestigious group of performers. If ever you get a chance to hear him in concert i urge you to go and listen to this young marvel. I see a principal chair coming his way!
