 Rubank Duet

In the Rubank Advanced Method, Vol. 1, pages 40-41, duet 18, there are a bunch of slurred phrases with staccato eighth notes in them. How do you play staccatos in a slur? I don't want to practice it wrong all week. What is this supposed to sound like? Thanks for your help!

It depends on the context and the composer, but probably in your case you can do a legato tongue and make sure each note has just the tiniest hint of a football shape.
