I got my Clark Fobes Debut mouthpiece today, and it is so much better than the vintage Selmer Goldentone I started lessons on. The sound is way less bright (abrasive sounding!) and seems more focused.

Now if I could just get my embouchure and breathing under control -- but, hey, I've only been taking lessons for 2 months, so I've got a ways to go.

Thanks again to everyone who helped nudge me toward getting this new mouthpiece.

 A great piece!

I began on it then I purchased the same facing in the San Francisco model. These are the only two mouthpieces I have ever owned.

I purchased a Debut one for my daughter when she started out and she's still using hers without issues.

That is wonderful news and I am happy the Debut works as well for you as mine did for me.

I am sure the embouchure and breathing will improve as time goes by.

Enjoy the journey!

This inspired me to go ahead and order a Fobes Debut of my own! I've only been playing for about eight/nine months, but I'm curious how this one will compare (I'm sure quite favorably) to the no-name mouthpiece that came with my used Buffet B12. Happy playing!

Let me know how you like it. I'm finding that the Debut is happiest when I pair it with a 2.5 Vandoren blue box reed. (The 2 strength reeds sound okay, too, but the tone really improves with the 2.5.)

Update: had a lesson with my teacher today, who commented on how good I was sounding. "Why, thank you," I replied, "it's all because of my new Clark Fobes Debut mouthpiece." The teacher scribbled down information on this mouthpiece.

I'm telling you, I should be the poster child for the Debut!
