What is that rod on the top joint of this old Strasser Mariigaux Lemaire? There's no photo of the other side of the top joint.

This looks like a mechanism to improve throat Bb like on alto and bass clarinet. Can you post a picture of the back of the joint?

Looks like an extra speaker vent for the altissimo register as it's linked to LH1 and is open when the speaker key is held open whilst LH finger 1 is raised.
It's also held closed when the throat A key is held open, so won't work as an improved throat Bb mechanism.
