Strauss put some amazing things in his music that most people don't know about, including some producers near here who performed a great Strauss opera not knowing that Strauss wanted certain things happening on stage and provided music to support them, but the there wasn't anything on stage for the music to elucidate. Yes, Wagner used leit motif in a simple way but Strauss developed the leit motif idea in an very advanced way that gives more pleasure every time I hear them. At one of his rehearsals he was quoted as saying, "Singers are too loud. The whole story is in the orchestra".
Deems Taylor gives a brief idea of what is in Till and if you get the concept, you can find much more that is hidden.

Yikes.......no denouement! Still I'd be interested if he has a similar treatise for "Symphonia Domestica."

Paul "Symphonia Domestica"? Just listen. There are three motifs - for mother, father and child and you can tell what the three are doing in a 24 hour day.
P.S - near the end is for adults only. And then it ends with a fantastic triple fugue.
