Being an (amateur) clarinettist I never tried any brass. But last year we played a march in which we had to whistle the melody half way into the piece.
I was not able to do that. Normally, whistling is no problem. But starting to whistle immediately after removing the clarinet appeared to be an unsurmountable problem for me. Most of my clarinet colleagues experienced the same. However, the brass players did not have any problems with the switch and they compensated for our lack of volume, as usually.
