I'm tempted by a plastic Bundy bass clarinet serial number 36941. I can't find what year that serial number means; I've been perfectly happy with the one plastic bundy Bb clarinet I played, for my purposes. But I've been very attracted to the bass because I like playing low. Is there any way I can find out more about whether this would likely be of the same general quality as the old plastic Bundy Bb clarinets? This one says it "needs adjustment" which could mean about anything, so I wouldn't pay a lot for it.

Year really doesn't matter, all Bundy basses play fairly well in the lower register when set up properly. The design and quality of the Bundy Bass clarinet model really hasn't varied much over their production (relatively speaking). The upper register can be a pain but with practice your embrochure will improve and you should have no problem playing the upper notes.
Just be aware that it's often cheaper to buy a bass that's already serviced and in good playing condition. Repair shops often charge more for repairs on bass clarinet as it is a "specialty instrument". Unless you have deep pockets or can fix instruments yourself don't buy a "project horn".

Thank you. This seller has a 100% satisfied rating so at least I think the description is accurate. My problem is mostly small hands and I can't reach some of the major brands. I'll think on it and make a very low bid if I decide to give it a try.

I see the bass you are looking at. It's being sold by a music shop which means they decided not to fix it for whatever reason. It sounds like the register key is damaged and is stuck open. If it was an easy repair they would have done it already because then they could sell it for more. For that price I would keep looking.
