 Re: Rovner Ligature question

After checking several sites I decided to buy a Vandoren leather ligature on line.Out of curiousity I tried securing a piece of scrap suede with a stretchy hair band to my mouthpiece. To my surprise it actually worked.A new sound is always exciting but I quickly found the sound to be to dark. Reflecting on the inserts that come with many leather ligatures I inserted a low profile lego brick under the leather and hair band. That experiment brought up the brightness quite a bit. After a short while I replaced the lego brick with a dime. That raised the brightness even higher. I normally experience a lot of frustration from metal ligatures slipping while I play. One of the best features of suede leather is that it does not slip.Another major feature is being able to reposition the reed without having to loosen and tighten the livgature. Over the next few days I hope to try a few other insert experiments to find something warmer. Leather is definety going to be a part of all my future playing.
