Yamaha Artist X Artisan Clarinets

In four recent Yamaha videos, Michael Collins, Jerome Voisin, Riccardo Crocilla, and some other clarinetists and Yamaha designer/technicians discuss what purports to be the "Artist X Artisan Clarinets." Are these something new, beyond the CSG, CSVR, SEVR, and SE Artist models?

One of them in the YouTube videos was definitely playing an SE Artist, and that logo was also on one of the joints in the 'atelier'' section

I think these videos are focusing on Yamahas attempts to work closely with, and listen to the comments and suggestions of, some world-class players in an on-going attempt to improve their products. While they depict individuals playing different models (some Oehler models too) I don’t think the videos are presenting new models per se.

I’ve played Yamaha CSGs for 12 years now and have recently played an Artist model owned by my best friend. I’m convinced that Yamaha makes great instrument and is serious about competing with the best in the world.

At the highest level, Yamaha doesn't sell you a clarinet. Yamaha's technicians work directly with you one-on-one to produce an instrument that fits you individually, starting with one of their models that suits your purposes (between the CS, SE, and G variations).

Backun is the same way. Morrie and his team don't just hand you an instrument out of the stock. You provide feedback to the technician that handles your instrument and does everything they can to suit your individual needs.

I didn't appreciate this when I was younger, but now I do...it's the same reason I don't bother to put together my own computer systems anymore--my time is valuable, and sifting through dozens of instruments to find one that I like, followed by sending it off to be completely overhauled right after now sounds absolutely ludicrous. A top-end instrument maker should handle this in-house!
